BII and Berlari Untuk Berbagi Support Healing Children with Retinoblastoma

 

Jakarta, August 10, 2012 - PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII) through corporate social responsibility (CSR) "BII Berbagi" with community Berlari Untuk Berbagi (BUB ) today hand over Laser Indirect Ophthalmoscope (LIO) Dioda to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital  (RSCM ) to support the healing of children with retinoblastoma. Submission of the retinoblastoma therapy equipment was made by BII Director Rita Mirasari and Stephen Liestyo and BUB founder and chairman Sandiaga S. Uno to Prof. Dr. Rita Sita Sitorus, PhD, as the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Oftalmologia, Department of Health Sciences School of Medicine Eye/RSCM and also Chairman of ICER (Indonesian Centre for Expertise in Retinoblastoma), RSCM.

Retinoblastoma therapy equipment support given from the fact that retinoblastoma has become the number two cause of cancer death in Indonesia after Leukemia. Eye cancer is most common in infants and children and can lead to blindness and even death. Early detection followed by prompt and proper treatment by providing local therapy using a diode laser with a LIO Dioda can prevent radical treatment done with lifting eyes. Therapy with laser diode can even maintain visual function of children with retinoblastoma.

"Support LIO Dioda for treatment of children with retinoblastoma in line with CSR BII Berbagi which includes a focus on health," said Rita Mirasari. "Efforts to cure retinoblastoma through these tools are expected to provide opportunities for children with retinoblastoma, which is also the nation's next generation, to move toward a better future," she added.

 

Sandiaga S. Uno said, "BUB fully supports CSR programs that have also been run by BII because this program aligned with the vision of BUB which is concerning for Indonesian children."

Sandiaga also explained that the process of cancer treatment takes a long time to make the kids lose their normal lives. "I hope to visit them here, gather, and share a sense of hope and the will to awaken their spirit back, that they are still able to enjoy life like us," he continued.

 

The handover of LIO Dioda was part of CSR activities and BUB and BII, which was centered in Rumah Anyo, a shelter for children with retinoblastoma, founded by Yayasan Anyo Indonesia (YAI) in Slipi, Jakarta. On this occasion BII employees and members BUB also share the joy with children with retinoblastoma through story telling in collaboration with the Kelompok Pecinta Bacaan Anak (KPBA), learn origami and break the fast together.

 

Previously, as part of the implementation of international BII Maybank Bali Marathon, in April 2012 BUB and BII also conducted a program called CSR to support public health in Gianyarthrough the Yayasan Bumi Sehat, by contributing to build a new medical clinic which will provide public health services, emergency care, pregnancy, birth and nursing services.
